I’ve had this happen on various computers and most of the time it’s the same problem… a sticky ctr key. Check that your ctr, alt, command buttons are not accidentally stuck depressed.
A stuck ctr key is the most likely issue. It can be very frustrating because you can’t type to search your issue… Your probably looking this up on your phone.
If it happens once it’ll likely happen and an unsuspecting moment in the future. Try to remember this solution. The last thing you want to have to do is shut down your work PC to reboot it, in the middle of a busy day to try and remedy the issue.
Sometimes the key lip gets stuck under the cutover and all it takes is a bit of pressure and a slight twist.
This is also a good reminder to keep you keys clean and perform regular maintenance on your equipment.
